Conscious Lawyering II
Course Overview
This is the fourth course in our five-part Transformative Law Program. In this part of the Program you will learn to apply the concept of Dharma to your work and life. Dharma implies a fulfillment of honor and recognition flowing from alignment to your true purpose and mission in life. When you are conscious of your Dharma and in alignment with it, your life takes on a new power and clarity. Your work becomes art. Your relationships become meaningful. Your law practice becomes a vehicle to consciously bring whatever truth, justice or other noble concept you are here to advance in the world.
We begin this course by examining your law practice in general as the field in which you practice your Dharma. We continue by analyzing how to understand each client relationship from within the context of your Dharma—your mission. We then examine communicating with clients, peers and others about expectations and results, again from within the context of your mission and purpose. Then, we address the much misunderstood concept of compassion as it applies to the practice of law—even the adversarial aspects of law practice. The course concludes with a discussion of communication as communion, as you develop a far higher perceptive ability to sense what is operating underneath the surface words and actions of others. The heart of this concept of communication as communion is to develop enhanced listening skills, which will enable you to master all relationships.
