Lawyers' Role in the Culture of Compliance
Course Overview
The events of 9/11, Enron and Katrina have each
brought about a further solidification of what we call
the Culture of Compliance. As a major part of our
culture, lawyers are deeply involved in this process
and their roles and responsibilities continue to shift to
meet ever new threats and regulatory schemes.
At the same time we are a culture awash with media
coverage. Media itself is fueled by a constant need for
news—especially in a world of increasing news options for people. Therefore, many media outlets have
increased their already ravenous thirst for any story with sensational value. Your clients, your employees
and your firm are at risk each day of becoming such a
story.
In such an environment two things are essential for
law firms. First, the ability to provide proactive or
prescriptive services to clients—part of which involves the skills to understand where the risks lie for
each client. Second, the ability to protect the firm
itself from becoming “news”. This seminar provides
the knowledge firms can use to understand where risk
lies, how to approach clients about proactive services
and how to help prevent compliance breaches.
